Sponsors:
Be sure that the candidate completes the "entire" registration form, including those questions that pertain to health issues, the congregation she/he is attending, how he/she is involved with their church (Emmaus trains church leaders), and emergency information.
Be sure that YOU complete "entirely" your part of the registration form, especially those questions that pertain to how long you have known the candidate, your commitment to pray for the candidate and care for her/his family during the weekend, your commitment to attendng the sponsor hour, candlelight, and closing, and your commitment to help your candidate find a 4th Day group. Remember, your part of the registration form is called, "Sponsor Covenant." Sponsorship is a covenant with the pilgrim and his/her family. This is not to be taken lightly.
A Brief Summary of Sponsorship Responsibilities:
Choose a candidate you have known for some time and they "active" in the church. Emmaus is not about making Christians but about building faith in church leaders to deepen their commitment, faith, and service.
Introduce Emmaus to the candidate and talk about what they will be doing on the weekend (listening to talks, eating, singing, sharing with other teens their age, eating, sharing communion, eating, and many other great things.)
Be sure that they complete the "entire" registration form, and you fill out your part of the Sponsor Covenant. Collect the registration fee and send the form and the registration fee promptly to the address provided. REMEMBER--Registration ends two weeks before a Walk so that the team can get ready for the weekend of service.
Bring the candidate to the weekend, remind them to pack comforable clothing, and attend the sponsors' hour, candlelight, and the closing.
Send out letters or emails to friends and family of the candidate, requesting letters of support, love, and agape for the candidate in their Walk. Collect those letters and deliver them to the mail room.
The weekend is only half of your responsibility. After the closing, continue to pray for the new member of the community, and assist your candidate to become associated with a 4th Day Group. You might also invite them to join you at the next Gathering so that they can get to know the wider Emmaus/Chrysalis family and discover more how they can become involved in this ministry.
